CONVERSATION | 2017

The work holds a space before an idea is fully realized, when it gradually gives up the freedom of being a vision. It explores the transition of two-dimensional shapes into objects that are situated on the body; the formal gestures that occur in response to gravity, function and site. I think about the work as an open conversation with no definite conclusion, only attempts to find one. There is both loss and magic in resolving a visual thought, a dream; in verbalizing and materializing it. As in a drawing, the work is assembled by fragments of thinking captured in lines, shapes, marks and punctuations of color. The idea lives in the collective of the many marks that collaborate to describe it.

“The panel was immediately drawn to the minimalism of these pieces. These pieces are a delicate and graceful study of line and form, that, while they exist as functional wearables, could also exist as sculpture. The way the surface is treated, and the finishes, are unique. The choice to leave certain edges and surfaces not perfect in contrast to the geometric shapes is great. The first few pieces are the strongest- minimalism is a fine line to walk, and these pieces walk it very successfully. Overall, these pieces are beautiful and interesting, and well made.”
